On Flip-Floppers

Please contain your excitement.

Yeah, politics as of late have proven to be particularly disappointing. I have watched all of the debates thus far, and have come to realize that they are just a farce. I don't know the exact statistics, but I know that a sizable portion of the voting population do not even watch the things, they just vote for whatever party mommy and daddy spoon fed to them when they were little. For those that do watch the debates, and do not have a predisposition for one candidate or another- the so called "undecided voter" (which I am not completely sure exists at all), the debates are essentially useless. Sure they give you an idea of where the candidates stand on some issues, but most of the time when they are presented with a question on policy or morality; they fail to answer it at all.

Instead, the candidates resort to using red herrings to divert the short attention span of the American public to some topic of policy that they actually are comfortable with. The sad thing is I think the tactic works. Why is the populace so easily fleeced? It makes me very pessimistic for the future of the country. Never the less, I will watch tonight's debates with at least a shred of optimism, hoping that somehow the voting population will see the ramifications of current and proposed policies, and not be led astray by a million dollar smile and a wink.

I cannot help but wonder George W. Bush has not had a president for a father, would he be president today? Probably not. He did after all receive a 500 on his verbal section of the SAT. That is no better than Joe Populace. His so called resolve seems to me to be merely a form of stubbornness. Kerry has been called a flip-flopper by the Republican Party; however what is wrong with being able to integrate new ideas and data to reform any opinion you may have held? I think that malleability of opinion is essential to any successful leader.
