Science is Awesome!!!




So yesterday, in preparation for my annual pirate party, I took a little trip to my local party supply store. There I purchased a few items to complete my piratey ensemble (this years costume preparation required slightly more effort as I will be a female pirate for a change), which included a flower for my massive colonial style wig, as well as a pair of red and black stripped stockings.


On my way home I stopped at the local Chick-Fillet and ate a sandwich. While waiting for my food I happened to see the kid’s meal display. It indicated that accompanying every kid’s meal was a science themed toy. Your child too can collect all (5) chemistry related toys, which included a beaker, graduated cylinder, evaporating dish, and test tube (I forgot the last item on the list). Being a bit of a science geek, I was impressed.


In researching this blog post I found a lady ranting on her blog about the lameness of receiving a beaker in her child’s Chick Fillet kid’s meal. To her I say, shame on you… science is much cooler than Barbies, Pokemon, and unimpressive small plush items that are typically the spoils of kids meals.

Well to you Missy Sandrac131, I assert the following 1) Science is awesome, and 2) you are defiantly no rocket scientist… nor is it likely that your progeny will be with such a myopic view on the subject.

Yeah, but do you have it in writing?

So it is almost that time again. Another year, another candle on the cake. With a whopping 25 candles this year, the pastry should be visible from New Jersey. I grow nervous. Certain key individuals have not asked me what I want this year. Maybe I'll just get a lump of coal. Or is that Christmas? Well at any rate, I did receive one early present this year: I opened a case of Boulevard's Christmas beer, Nutcracker Ale, and noticed a very interesting phenomena: My name is on every bottle. Now before you jump to conclusions as to the nature of my most recent exploits, I would like to add that there are many other names on the label besides my own. The company, in recognition of its employees, places their names on the labels of that particular brew. It is a nice little perk.
